Cancer is a group of diseases that have the highest mortality rate. The primary cause of cancer is yet to be known. Fortunately, we can reduce the risk of developing certain types of cancer by avoiding certain foods. Replacing processed foods with whole foods is the best way to reduce the risk of getting cancer. Here are some of the foods that increase the risk of getting cancer.
Foods meals that increase the risk of getting cancer are as follow:
According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer, eating processed meat increases the risk of getting certain types of cancer, particularly colorectal cancer. According to the World Health Organization, processed meat such as hot dogs, bacon, ham, salami, and chorizo are Group 1 carcinogen.
These foods have a high amount of nitrate, salt, and unhealthy fats, which increases the risk of getting stomach cancer and other types of cancer.
Sugar-sweetened beverages such as soda increases the risk of getting stomach cancer, breast cancer, and colorectal cancer. Diets that cause blood sugar to rise increases the risk of these cancers.
People who consume soda and other sugar-sweetened beverages that are rich in refined carbs are twice as likely to get colon cancer than those who consume low sugar beverages. High level of blood sugar and insulin for a long term leads to the development of abnormal cells, which contributes to the development of cancer.
To reduce the risk of getting cancer, consider replacing soda with sparkling water and homemade fresh fruit juices.
Grilled Red Meat
Doctors often advise that we limit the amount of red meat we consume. Foods that are cooked at high temperatures such as red meat produce acrylamide, which is a carcinogen. When fat drips to the grill, it results in a flame that covers the meat with a chemical known as polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).
Polyaromatic hydrocarbons increase the risk of certain types of cancer. To reduce the risk of getting cancer, replace grilled meat with veggies and fruits.
Canned foods contain a lot of added salt, while canned fruits contain a lot of added sugar syrup. The chemical lining in cans makes everything worse. The chemical (BPA) leaches to the food that comes into contact with it. BPA increases the risk of getting cancer.
Canned foods that are naturally acidic such as tomatoes are worse. To reduce the risk of getting cancer, consider eating fresh foods or cans that have a label showing they are sodium and BPA and free.
Oils that aren’t naturally extracted from their sources are hydrogenated using chemicals. A good example of chemically produced oil is vegetable oil. They aren’t only chemically produced but also colored. Vegetable oil is rich in omega-6 fats that increase the risk of heart diseases.
Unfortunately, most commercially made snacks use vegetable oil. To reduce the risk of getting cancer, consider replacing hydrogenated oils with naturally extracted oil such as olive oil, soy or canola for home cooking. Also, avoid buying too many cookies and cakes from stores.
